Brandy
Brandy gets it s name from the Dutch word brandewijn which means burnt wine. Brandy is actually distilled from wine, the resulting spirit from the distillation process is then matured in oak casks which imparts the typical amber colour most brandies possess, in some brandies caramel is added to the spirit which aids colouring but also imparts a touch of sweetness to the spirit.
