Dating back to 1725 there are 20 hectares of vines within the Clos which surrounds the Chateau Pommard. Today this is the only Chateau in Burgundy where the surrounding Clos belongs fully to the Chateau itself, and more importantly one proprietor Dr Jean-Louis Laplanche. The vines within the Clos are very old and naturally produce only small quantities of wine but this does not stop Jean-Louis and Nadine Laplanche being draconian in their selection of grapes for the appellation Chateau de Pommard. The vinification takes place in large traditional wooden casks with manual pigeage of the cap of skins back into the juice three times a day with a resulting impressive depth of colour. Top quality burgundy ready to be appreciated now.
