This family owned Bodegas owns all of its own vineyards, totalling 741 acres in the Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Baja which means they have total control of their grape sources which is unusual in Rioja.
The aim of the Martinez Bajunda family is to make world class wines with an individual style yet still retain their Rioja identity. In particular their philosophy is to produce wines that will age well yet can still be drunk and enjoyed in their youth.
All their Riojas are produced from vineyards situated in Cenicero,Oyon and Ausejo.
The Crianza is made from 85% Tempranillo and 15% Mazuelo. The wine is aged for 8 months in stainless steel tank then 16 months in oak barrel and then is rested in bottle before release.
The Reserva is made from 82% Tempranillo and 18% Mazuelo. The wine is aged for 10 months in stainless steel tank then 26 months in oak barrel and then is rested in bottle before release.
The Gran Reserva is made from 82% Tempranillo and 18% Mazuelo. The wine is aged for 12 months in stainless steel tank then 33 months in oak barrel and then is rested in bottle for 34 months before release.
From the Vina Alto Cantabria vineyard comes the Conde de Valdemar Blanco, barrel fermented and produced from Viura grapes. After fermentation the wine is racked off the lees for a further ageing period of 6 months in French and American oak.
