The Speri family has a considerable history in the production of Amarone and similar wines, family members having begun the bottling and selling of their wines in 1874. Today the firm is run by Carlo Speri, the youngest of four brothers, who oversees a large number of nephews and cousins in the business. The fruit is sourced from Speri’s own vineyards, which total 60 hectares, spread in several locations across the Valpolicella region. The wines produced can be excellent. The Amarone can be an intense, rich, muscular wine. There is a basic Recioto, as well as the excellent Recioto della Valpolicella Classico cru ‘La Roggia’.There are also several bottlings of Valpolicella, one Classico, one Classico Superiore and one cru Sant’ Urbano.
