A tight, minerally wine with classic Hamilton Russell Vineyards length and complexity. Unusually prominent pear and lime fruit aromas and flavours are brought beautifully into focus by a tight line of bright natural acid and a long, dry minerality. An elegant, yet textured and intense wine with a strong personality of both place and vintage.
Taken from low-vigour, stony, clay-rich and shale-derived soils. Fermentation took place in 92% barrel and 8% in stainless steel and the wine was then aged for 8 and a half months in 1st, 2nd and 3rd fill barrels. The standout feature of 2014, was the high level of physiological ripeness at much lower alcohols than usual - a highly desirable, but generally elusive situation for much of the Cape winelands. The resulting wines have benefitted with a rich depth of character and lively tension, without the sweetness and weight of higher alcohol.
