Chateau Haut Bages Monpelou Pauillac Bottle 2017

Chateau Haut Bages Monpelou Pauillac Bottle 2017

Owned by the Castéjas Family, Château Haut-Bages Monpelou, is part of the Borie-Manoux négociant stable. They also own Château Batailley’s and this wine is often described as Batailley’s ‘little brother’. This Château was for a long time part of Duhart-Milon, until it was bought it in 1970 by Emile Castéja, so has impeccable pedigree. This cru bourgeois property is situated on gravel soils in the heart of the Pauillac appellation and produces richly flavoured wine with cassis and forest fruit flavours to the fore typical of the area. Vinification and cellaring take place at Château Batailley, which also lends the expertise of its technical team for the wine making process.

The wine is a blend of 70% cabernet sauvignon with 27% merlot and 3% cabernet franc, and it spends 16 months in oak barrels, 30% of which are new oak. A stylish and well-made wine that can be drunk in its youth but will reward handsomely with extended cellaring.
