Vintage Overview
One of the most challenging vintages in a generation. A good start to the year with plenty of rain and snow, then temperatures rising toward the end of March, however between 10th and 18th April, night-time temperatures fell to between -8°C and -12°C which destroyed buds that had started to open. By early May, we were looking out on hectares of blackened vines and the situation looked catastrophic but, gradually, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, green shoots emerged from the stems of the vines. A humid June and mild July were followed by rising temperatures throughout August and a heatwave into September which resulted in further losses in the vineyards by the time it came to harvest. Cabernet Sauvignon was picked on 3rd September with 65% losses to the crop; Cinsault started on the 8th of September with losses of 70% in the vineyards of Aana and 40% in the vineyards of Kefraya. Finally, Carignan picked on 11th September which was 50% down.
Grape Varietals
An equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Carignan
Winemaking
Each varietal was fermented with natural yeasts in concrete vats, then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. The wine was blended in January 2018 and bottled in July/August of that year.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby colour and an aroma of fresh hedgerow berries - bramble, blackcurrant and cherry, also more complexity coming through later with leather and delicate, peppery-spice notes. The flavours are similar, with some soft vanilla, warming spice and a cocoa note. Fresh acidity and supple tannins make the wine a perfect accompaniment to richer, fattier meats like duck or a ribeye steak.
Our delivery charges are based on the number of bottles in your order, and each case can hold 12 x 75cl bottles as shown in the table below smaller and larger bottles are pro rata. We do not have a minimum order requirement.
Subject to stock availability and successful payment authorisation, we aim to despatch your order the next working day after you place your order. Our Standard Delivery is a next day service for most of the mainland UK from date of despatch, and The Highlands and Islands areas are on a 2-3 day service normally. As most orders are delivered via our chosen courier company, we cannot offer guaranteed delivery times, however the vast majority of orders placed arrive on the next working day. During busy periods these delivery times may extend. IF YOUR ORDER IS TIME CRITICAL PLEASE RING THE OFFICE TO GET MORE UP TO DATE INFORMATION ON CURRENT DELIVERY TIME SCALES, AND WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS, BUT PLEASE NOTE WE ARE COURIER DEPENDENT ONCE THE ORDER LEAVES US, SO WE CANNOT ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEE A DELIVERY DATE.
We are able to hold your order if you would like to organise a day when you are going to be in, to do this just indicate it in the notes box provided in the delivery area of the order process. Please add any other specific delivery requirements in the same box and we will do our best to ensure they are followed, or alternatively call us on 01472 852118 and we will do our best to help you. Our chosen Couriers deliver Monday to Friday between 8.00 am & 6.00 pm.
Please note it is not possible to specify a timed delivery, without incurring additional delivery charges, if this something you require please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Please note that all our consignments normally REQUIRE A SIGNATURE on receipt. We will NOT be able to leave your order without someone taking the order in, we cannot leave your order unattended in a porch or garage etc., unless we get written confirmation from you that this is acceptable and that you will take full responsibilty if the parcel goes missing. However we are able to leave it with a neighbour or at an alternative address where they can take the goods in, please indicate this in the box for notes on the delivery page of the order process, if this is a requirement. If no-one answers the door, the address will be carded in the normal manner you should contact the courier or us to get the delivery rescheduled.
Orders under £30 in value will incur a small order £10 carriage charge to standard none surcharged UK delivery areas.
