Castiglion del Bosco

Castiglion del Bosco

In 1980, Brunello di Montalcino made history as Italy’s first wine to be awarded DOCG status. To earn this title, Brunello must be produced exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso grapes grown in Montalcino and aged a minimum of 24 months in oak and further 24 months in bottle before release.

The estate is located in the Val d’Orcia National Park, to the north-west of Montalcino, with 62 hectares of vineyards. Located between 350-460 metres above sea level, the spectacular ‘Capanna’ vineyard, from which the Brunello di Montalcino is produced, covers 42 hectares facing south/south-west towards the Tyrrhenian coast. The microclimate is strongly influenced by the sea with hot, dry summers and a constant breeze that reduces humidity.
